Outlooks: Heather Hart
Final weekend to see Outlooks: Heather Hart at Storm King Art Center!
For its fifth iteration at Storm King, the Outlooks exhibition series features Heather Hart’s The Oracle of Lacuna, an interactive work that directly engages histories of migration, slavery, and growth in the Hudson Valley region. Hart’s is the first site-specific Outlooks project to be activated by programming and public participation.
Hart takes inspiration from the traditions and narratives aligned with storytelling, as well as the concept of home. The roof is a recurring theme in her practice—Hart's father worked as a carpenter and as a child, she would often climb onto her own rooftop for the sanctuary it provided. Visitors to Storm King are permitted to engage with Hart's sculpture, walking atop and underneath the exposed roof. Through the continued activation, Hart attempts to address the region's oral histories and the transference that comes naturally from the art of storytelling: a story is never told the same way twice.
