Harlem continues to be the epicenter of creative expression for artists of African descent living in America. Join us as we walk in the footsteps of the visual, performing and literary artists of the Harlem Renaissance.

Your guide will be John Reddick, one of Harlem's most engaging and knowledgeable purveyors of the  neighborhood's history. Active in the preservation of New York's architecture, Mr. Reddick has written on Harlem's architectural and cultural history and is currently researching its Black and Jewish music culture between 1890 and 1930. He’s given lectures at the Apollo Theater and the Museum for the City of New York and led walking tours for El Museo de Barrio, Open House New York and Harlem One Stop.

Reddick has also spearheaded several of Harlem's recent public space initiatives, providing design coordination, public outreach and final artist selection for park and public plazas design enhancements. To date his projects have included Elizabeth Catlett’s sculptural tribute to Ralph Ellison in Riverside Park, Alison Saar’s commemoration of Harriet Tubman at 122nd & St Nicholas Avenue and the recently completed memorial to Frederick Douglass by artists Al Miller and Gabriel Koren located at Frederick Douglass Circle and Central Park.
