Upcoming Event, Watch & Listen 2021, Studio Live

Join us for a Studio LIVE program featuring Kemi Ilesanmi, Executive Director of The Laundromat Project (LP). Prior to joining The LP in 2012, Ilesanmi was Director of Grants and Services at Creative Capital Foundation. From 1998–2004, she was a visual arts curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. She serves on the boards of the Joan Mitchell Foundation and The Broad Room, as well as advisory boards for WNET All Arts and Smith College Museum of Art.

During this conversation, Ilesanmi will sit in conversation with Legacy Russell, Associate Curator, Exhibitions to reflect on the institutional maturation of The LP as it celebrates its 15th anniversary, the strategic vision of the organization, as well as The LP’s theory of change—a concept rooted in the idea that when artists and communities collaborate, meaningful change follows. The pair will discuss the importance and necessity of championing artists of color in order to create communities of care that combat structures of racial, economic, and gendered disenfranchisement.

To watch the talk, visit the Studio Museum’s Instagram page at 6:00 pm EST.
